Climbing Azourki (3,677m)
GEEKTRIP invites you to take part in the experience of ascending Mount Azourki, the sacred peak nestled in the heart of the Central Atlas. Perched above Lake Izourar, this summit watches over the Aït Atta nomads during their summer journeys with their herds. After passing through a dense forest of evergreen oaks, the trail vanishes, giving way to an off-road phase that is essential to reach the summit. The ascent doesn't require specific technical skills, but good physical fitness is recommended. Once at the summit, you'll be rewarded with an exceptional panoramic view of the M'Goun range and Ouaouguelzat.
Itinéraire
Our adventure will kick off in the early evening from Casablanca. Later, we will pause for dinner in Beni Mellal before heading towards Azilal and the Ait Bouguemez Valley. It's in this location that we will spend our first night at the hostel.

The day will start at 7:00 AM with a wake-up call followed by a hearty breakfast. By 8:00 AM, we will begin our ascent to the summit of Azourki. The climb, quite steep, entails a positive elevation gain of 1400 meters. Approximately 5 hours of walking will be needed to reach the summit, where a picnic lunch will be enjoyed while gazing at the majestic backdrop of the Ouaouguelzat and Mgoun mountain range. After reaching this peak, the descent will start to return to the hostel, which will take about 3 hours.
The return to the hostel is scheduled around 5:00 PM, in the late afternoon. You'll then have some well-deserved free time to catch your breath before savoring a delicious and satisfying dinner to replenish your energy.
After a restful night's sleep, we kick off our day with a delightful breakfast at the hostel. Following that, we bid farewell to the splendid Ait Bouguemez Valley and make our way back, stopping at the Lake of Bien Elouidane. For those interested, there's an opportunity to enjoy an hour of kayaking on the Oued L’Abid. We relish lunch while taking in an unbeatable panoramic view of the lake before resuming our journey back towards Casablanca.
